Stage 4 - Tooling and Production Engineering
The Rehrig Pacific Company Tooling Group acts as a liaison between the Design Department and our tooling vendors. They ensure that our molds are built to exacting specifications so that we produce high quality parts quickly and efficiently. New part designs are checked and feedback is constantly provided to avoid issues that could affect cycle times, product quality or production efficiencies. In addition, the Tooling Group uses Moldflow simulation software to ensure that the parts are filled properly with minimal warp and proper shrinkage. After final Customer approval and a comprehensive internal review, the part is released to the tooling vendor for the mold build. Prior to production, the tool is completely debugged to ensure that both design and tooling specifications are met.
Moldflow simulation software is used to ensure efficient production and product quality before the mold is built.
After the mold build is complete Rehrig Pacific engineers attend the mold trial and observe pre-production parts being molded. Our process engineers continue to work with the mold builder to optimize molding efficiency while our design engineers scrutinize the pre-production parts to ensure accuracy. Product functionality and performance, such as snap fits and deformation limits, are checked measured against specifications. As soon as we are satisfied both production and performance specifications will be met or exceeded the mold is shipped to one of Rehrig Pacific’s manufacturing locations.
Rehrig design and plant engineers attend mold trials to evaluate product and mold performance before signing off on the final design and the mold is shipped.
